If you guys hadn't noticed I take this entire Ukraine conflict fiasco a little personally. There are a couple of reasons for this. One if there was ever anything close to being an enemy of my blood it would be Russians. Not because I have a reaction to anything they ever did but because I was raised under the assumption they would indeed do something. I was trained to defend against them, ordered to learn and remember their tactics, identify their equipment, their rank and insignia, how they would attack etc.
The Reagan cold war era gave us all a purpose and those of us who were there believed in it and worked hard to achieve the goal we saw at the end. We believed the Reagan/Thatcher strategy would work and if we did everything we were told we would avoid literally the end of the World. There were no medals, or I never knew anyone personally who got one anyway. Just frost bite and stupid little ribbons for polishing our boots in the mud during an exercise or almost getting run over by some lunatic falling asleep in his M1 driving harness.
That isn't really an embellishment either I personally drove the end of the tube of a 109 through the canvass cover of a 5 ton truck during a night move once. I didn't even know what had happened until I could see actual faces looking at me from the back of that truck in the light of the little square red headlamp I had to use. All I saw before ripping that canvass in two was a weird greenish red tinted fog. They should have known better than try and cross in the middle of our battery night move anyway.
As it turned out of course war was averted. No one fired at another person or was fired on. There was no horror of war and death, most of us never saw the enemy in person or if we did it was in a very public kinda way when we were on our best behavior. The worst thing I ever lived through was spending three days in full MOP gear training for surviving a chemical attack scenario.
Believe me even 80 degrees is hot in MOP level 4.
I have since had the privilege to actually get to know a Russian or Ukrainian soldier or two who served at about the same time frame I did. Have even been friends with a Ukrainian/Russian married couple. I got to hear their take of the era and surprisingly we have always shared the same common emotion of relief when it was finally over.
I think many of us learned a certain amount of respect (for everyone) way back then.
Yet the United States at least is now being lead by petulant, disrespectful, spoiled, children. That have zero interest not only in what was done or how hard people worked to maintain peace back then but also by blatantly disregarding all agreements, promises, treaties, etc. made back then, for no other reason than to show their disdain and disrespect to the Men and Women of that era who made it happen.
It is truly for no other cause than a mob of them demanding a statue being removed and destroyed. They do not even have the faintest idea why these agreements were made anymore than they do who the statue was of. No accountability and no respect just hatred that they have concocted in their own demented brains.
I have nothing against Ukrainians. I have nothing against Russians. Yet they are a close people and many of them consider themselves as much both as they do either. I know this from personal experience. We should have let them work it out themselves years ago and should have stayed out of it now instead of attempting to turn it into a play ground for American political figures and their kin. Now these same spiteful children with political power they have no respect for or ability to use wisely are destroying everything for their own greed and emotional issues.
So ya I take that personally and in truth I respect and trust Putin more than I do our own falsely and illegally none-elected leaders.
All I can do is keep prepping and hope for the best right now though.
The west has a power vacuum. Our leaders are clowns or children that weren’t raised right. They will do what clowns and fools will do. Assuming we survive and don’t blow up the world…. Eventually we will get a strong man who will sweep this idiocy all aside and put an end to it and the people that drove it. He’ll come from the political left or the right… but he’s on the way. If he is a socialist…no amount of prepping will save anyone.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that during the cold war we were supposed to hate Russia because it was globalist. Now, we're supposed to hate Russia because it's not globalist. How times have changed. What hasn't seemed to change, is that people still want to tar and feather ordinary citizens with the brush that ought to be reserved for politicians and policy makers. They're the ones that stir all this stuff up while the rest of us have to suffer for it.
