I finally had a small delivery last night and another small one scheduled for today that despite my best efforts at dragging my feet and waiting for it never showed up. It was only for two vehicles and came off a rail spur up near Detroit this morning so no telling how many stops the delivery driver has made and may well not get in until tonight or tomorrow. But still not very usual for the last few months especially.
I cannot say for sure as I have seen this bazzarro world we are currently living in change so many times over the last couple of years and especially the last few months but something has changed just this last week or so too. I got in two brand new Super Duties, and not base models at that, who's total MSRP remained under 54K. Brand New 23's at that. While I took my time getting the new vehicles put into our system I noticed our current batch of customers out browsing the new vehicles and it reminded me of three years ago. Only old retired people are looking. Dare I say no one else can afford new cars today. The salesman declare this year has been better than last year todate but I just don't believe them. Of course the sales department is not one you want to ask about sales that's for sure.
Also I find it interesting to note that for the first time in months I didn't have to use some creative effort in finding a suitable location to park my incoming vehicles. Our back customer lot was less than half full and I haven't seen that on a Wednesday morning in months either. We have been swamped since way back last fall at least. I have had to deal with dozens of new vehicles arriving before Wednesday every week, all with customers screaming that they need to leave town immediately so they want em NOW and then this week it drops off to nothing.
I managed to get home early, work on raising the deck on my back up mower and piddle around all afternoon. Here it is sun down and still not another delivery has arrived yet and I read article after article of trucking services closing their doors this afternoon. Nothing is making sense right now.
I have finally started evaluating what I have going on here a bit more as well. I still have 10 mostly ancient sheep to take care of. I honestly am surprised I have 10 still alive but I am pretty convinced that if it wasn't for tender new grass growth right now I would lose two of my oldest ewes for sure right now. Neither Lilly nor Marble-cake seem able to eat grain anymore with enough vigor if they needed it to survive and they won't touch hay either now. Neither of the old girls are interested in pushing their way to the feed trough and I am forced to wait until all the other ewes are eating to try and slip some extra in for these two.
These two are always together and looking out for each other but they move at about 1/10th speed these days.
I looked around the area today and noticed all the old spots of people who had goats, sheep, Donkey's etc. are all empty now. My place seems to be even the last retirement home around anymore. As much as I worry about maintenance I guess I really only have to make until all of my charges are gone at this point.
Keep Prepping Everyone!!!
