Let the Goldenrod Flow Begin

Since I suddenly had this incurable need to flee the air conditioning and put on a bee suit in the 95 degree plus high humidity weather I got a few things done I been putting off. One of my new swarm hives down at the Orchard Apiary needed a new brood chamber and I had to mow around the Garden hives as well.

You just know it was an emergency bee operation or I wouldn't have subjected myself  to all that heat. It isn't quite as bad as running around in full military MOP gear. At least the bee suit isn't lined with rubber, but it's close.

Ya know what a bee suit needs? A rubber hose so you can use a gas mask ready canteen cap with it. Hmmmmmm.

Anyway the Goldenrod is blooming down at the Orchard hives. They are about five miles South of my other hives and the Goldenrod hasn't bloomed up here yet. It should be a good Fall flow this year.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!

  1. No goldenrod here. Some kind of pea and a field with tar weed.

    1. MV - The bees aren't really working the Goldenrod here yet. I noticed that they usually wait a week or so after I start seeing it blooming before they start really hitting it.

  2. Good excuse but get back to the cleaning frenzy! Our golden rod just isn't doing much yet, cool and wet I guess.

    1. Sf - I am surprised the stuff here is blooming. Seems a bit early for it I was thinking.

  3. You need a hydro pack like the military wears, filled with ice cold water. Didi you know that Thomas Edison experimented with Harvey Firestone to make rubber from golden rod. He worked on it at the Edison Botanic Research Lab in Ft. Meyers, Fla. It was at his winter home.

  4. It was just a tic below 100 here. Did not stop us from pulling weeds and working on the chicken coop. Looking at the bee suit was enough to make me sweat. Def. Need some onboard cooling system. No golden rod here

    1. JuGM - The thing that get's me here when it is like this is the humidity. It just makes it unbearable and it should be a lot less by this time of the year.

Probably NOT worth the time. Can you tell me what Solomon asked for? Summarize.

  6. PP,

Need some freezer packs added to the pockets of your jumpsuit.
This may help with some of that heat.

I haven't seen any Golden Rod...............I've seen everything else.

    1. Sandy - I find the hardest part is just doing it when it's hot. Once I get the thing on I am fine but building the motivation when it's 100 degrees is a different story :)

  7. Dave - I will look into that. I actually use a jacket with the screen head cover attached right now. I never did like those full suits and veils as they always seemed to get knocked off on me.

  8. Our Sweet Autumn Clematis are going crazy. By accident, more so than intent, we have a lot of late summer/fall flowering plants.
