Just a Mundane Monday

Not a lot going on today, sorry to disappoint. The Wife apparently got up early this morning and read my post from yesterday and as usual was overcome with desire for the real manly man she married and had to stay home and cook me eggs. So I got a late start on things this morning.

Even once I got moving most of the day simply amounted to getting truck loads of my massive wood chip piles and taking them to where they are most needed and shoveling them out. Yes it's a long boring process but it is saving me some serious gasoline so I don't mind it monopolizing my work time right now.

It's been my experience that by the end of Winter I will lose about 2 or more inches from wood chip decay as it is so I am piling it on thick. It isn't like I have a shortage of the stuff and I still haven't decided to actually try the whole wood chip garden thing anyway. I am still not convinced the good outweighs the bad side effects.

The days really have that Fall feeling already. I still have a few hummingbirds hanging out around the feeders but only females or very young birds that I can see. The local geese are really hitting the corn fields hard now and I have several flights coming over all day long. If we were in a grid down situation I would be taking the shotgun out for a bit of wing shooting right now.

The race is on to get as many final little touches out of the way as possible before the real cold hits and those huge wood chip piles are first on my list to tackle.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. Geese are doing the same here, I don't even know when the season is, I thought it was in the winter. They were lwo today,
Some jobs just grind on and on like moving wood chips and tilling the garden but you just keep at it.

  3. PP,

At least you're getting those wood chips exactly where you would like them. And you'll be able to check off a project on your list of this to be done.

  4. We get some geese that stay all winter at the cooling pods of the power plants. We had some cool days last week, warmer this week. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. Falling temps and a hard freeze. I saw on the weather channel this am snow in the high Rocky's and Sierra Nevada's. Old Man Winter is just waiting.
