Nap Time!!!

It was almost what I would call a perfect day today around here. Gentle wind, mostly sunny but not too hot, no rain and relatively low humidity. I got off work at my normal time and had plans to get started on a number of projects that have been lagging due to the monsoon season starting and work getting crazy. The only thing bothering me was I was feeling pretty stiff and it seemed to be getting worse as the morning went on.

Now I know the poor little boy lambs got the worst end of it yesterday but catching, carrying and holding those 18 or so squirming lambs while the vet did his business.... and more than a couple of them are actually getting kinda big now, really wore me out yesterday. Followed closely by unloading that scrap metal I had on the truck. I was really feeling it. After a half hearted attempt at beginning the tear down of the old dilapidated wooden fence I made redundant with the crossroads paddock I decided a nap was in order.

End result. I wasted almost an entire day. But man did I feel better after I did it :)

By late afternoon when I finally started moving again the lambs were beginning to perk up a bit too. The little ewe lambs were all standing around wondering why the boys weren't out playing with them on such a nice day. While the ewe lambs will run and carry on without the young rams you can definitely see a reduction in the enthusiasm level when the more dominant young rams are removed. There just isn't as much running, almost no trailer climbing and diving and not as much stiff legged jumping antics. Which is understandable.

The independent lamb exploration flock was also noticeably absent from the far reaches of the pasture too. Which was just as well since I really didn't feel like hiking out the 200 yards or so to round em up when it was time to come in for the day.

Still I can't complain. It turned out to be a lazy day with fine weather and a lot of napping going on all around. There almost wasn't even a spot for a human to enjoy an evening on the porch because of all the dogs, cats and hens lounging there taking a nap together. The sheep came up to the corner of the barn lot and napped within a few feet as well seemingly wanting to join the crowd.

I guess we all just needed a bit of a break today.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!!

  1. A lot of people fail to appreciate what hard work farming is. My wife's friends think we follow some special diet because we never put on weight. As you get older knowing when to rest, when your body is telling you to rest, becomes very important. Sometimes you have stop a while to me forward.

  5. Many years ago, I discovered the advantages of a 1 hour power nap just after lunch.

Wake up revived and ready to go again!

    1. Bob - My problem is my 1 hour power naps always tend to turn into 4 hour siestas...

    1. Sandy - I always feel so much better after one. But the after effects don't last as long as they used to either.
