Clobbered by Goliath

I got called into work this morning and it's extended to tomorrow and probably all week now at this point so postings, replies and comments may be down quite a bit. Twelve hour shifts just drain me these days it seems.

Several employees are literally flooded in to their homes around the area. Countless roads are closed all over and it's still raining out with most streams and rivers not predicted to crest until tomorrow afternoon or later. In most cases the smaller rivers and such have already risen to within a foot or less of the 1993 "One Hundred Year Flood" records and down by the Missouri river and Mississippi a number of towns are being evacuated.

The only real bright side to this is we seem to be South of the freeze line or all this rain would have been snow and locked us up good and tight. Only about 20 miles or so North of the Small-Hold it snowed and sleeted heavily.

At one point this morning I was making a delivery and had to traverse water over the road that was about halfway up the tires on the vehicle. I was assured it was safe and in truth I could see the painted lines on the road for most of the time through the water so I wasn't too worried but a local deputy came up as I was going through and closed the road after me. I had to drive about 20 miles out of my way around the closure to get back.

It's a real mess and supposedly the cold is following closely behind this storm coming in tonight with temps dropping into the teens and 50+ MPH winds once again.

Time to batten down the hatches I guess. Hopefully I can get back to more regular posting tomorrow evening.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!!!

  1. Sounds like you kind of missed it but don't take any big chances on driving in it.

  4. The rain has finally stopped here. Now we're expecting overnight temps below freezing. Guess I should look for some ice skates! :)

  5. In Cokato we had an inch of snow after all the hoopla. Southern MN picked up 8.0". The State Troopers on TV yesterday said stay off the roads and stay home. North of us they saw nothing. Folks will grow tired of the gloom and doom, in a few weeks and when it does get bad they will think all its is crying wolf, and then many will be caught off guard.

  8. Stay Safe! We just missed that storm as we traveled back from WI on Sunday, rather than Monday. Good thing from the look of it all. WI got over 12 inches, and it's been over 20 years since I've driven in the stuff so I'm glad we left early!
