Whelp I am now the proud owner of an old Massy Ferguson 41 sickle mower. It has been used on a 1964 Ford 800 diesel for the last 10 years so I am pretty sure it will work on my 1954 8N. While I was up looking at it the seller offered me an old inline 5 foot brush hog for 100 bucks to so I said "sold" but will need to go back up and get it because I didn't have room on the trailer for both.
He also offered me the 800 diesel for $2600.00 too. I am seriously thinking about it if I can make a deal with my Dad who really wants it too. Those are some rare old tractors and I would love to restore one. I got so many irons in the fire right now I don't need to add a full tractor restoration to the list but it's almost too good a deal to pass up. To be honest I am thinking about just turning around and reselling the brush hog for a fast down payment on the tractor. Having an extra around is never a bad idea but since I am closer to hobby farm land than the seller I can get more money for these implements than he can. Most of the guys up his way just laugh at such small and old equipment but down here with people buying five acres, a mini horse or two and then putting a sign naming it as a farm, stuff like that goes for a premium.
First though I need to get the mower off the trailer and figure out where all the lube points and such are and try and find a manual for it online to print off. The blades on it look pretty old too but the belt appeared to have no cracking or wear that I could detect and the unit moved easily when I turned the PTO shaft. It does have a few field repair spots on it and a bit of after market welding done as well but for $275.00 I almost can't go wrong.
My Mother wasn't too happy I stopped working on her cabin to travel almost four hours round trip for this mower but I wasn't going to pass this up nor wait a day or two and risk it being sold before I got there. The seller was right about one thing he told me that in another couple of months implements like this will be going for 500 bucks or more.
So I am now one step closer to the ultimate goal of being able to run this entire farm with the 8N. Only about five or six more "Must have" implements to go now!!!!
Keep Prepping Everyone!!!
