Sunday Reading - The Utopian Let Down

I still keep watching that farce of a reality show. Truthfully once Fox opened up the power of their television marketing to the group and turned the entire thing into fans just dropping by to visit and leave donations, 90% of the important observations turned into mist and floated away. There is no struggle left or need to make hard choices, be frugal or do anything more than playing what looks to me like High school games.

As usual when resources come easy things degenerate into popularity contests and little backstab fests.

The last episode really showed this as some of the Men tried to take the rules seriously and vote according to the productive value guidelines while the Women (and a couple of the petty guys) went native.  It was to be expected I guess.

They voted the Redneck guy out which was expected. I won't deny the guy had some personality issues and could be a real dumb ass but if that group was truly worried about resources he would have been the last one to go. Just my opinion anyway.

At this point the only real value left in the show is a peek at pettiness, behind the scenes squabbling and double standards. Oh and how far things can digress in an unstructured environment like that. One of the Women is already attempting to prostitute the single guys which brought in a Gay couple which of course everyone was fine with, including the protstituted guy.

I still cannot get over the Female pre-occupation with sex constantly working it's way into the show and conversely how it is effecting the general mood and popularity contest side of things.

Like I said there are a few interesting little tidbits that could prove useful to know if you find yourself in a small group survival situation. Any serious prepper would do well to study them and learn what sort of behavior to watch out for I think. More importantly how to squash it if you seeing happening.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. If you ever wondered why men ended up running everything throughout history with women ascribed to minor status you above post frames it 100%.

    1. Anon - I think I am just out of touch these days. I mean some of the Women back in my day were wild but these Women who are 25 - 30 years younger than me now just seem to take it to an entirely new level. If I was 25 I would prolly be all for it though.

That's all these shows are about. It's a reality show! You expected reality?

    1. MV - Well I had hoped that they were going to leave these people truly on their own. In all honesty it would have been an entirely different show if they had filmed it as it went down and then aired it rather than this live sorta thing. The Fox programming is able to make it too easy on them and has pretty much ruined what the show could have been.

  3. That's why I don't like reality shows. I bailed on "Survivor" years ago. So many shows are staged in not even funny.

    1. Rob - The problem is they aren't reality shows. It's the lack of reality that makes em useless to me anyway.

  4. I often think that in tough situations it would be your own group that pulls you down without a strong leader. bitchyness and backstabbing are always how it starts.

    1. Kev - I can see that if you had a bad group. I was really interested in seeing if a little reality would suck some of that bitchiness out. Nothing like having to worry about the other tribe coming over for a kidnapping to make em appreciate their protectors. Of course they wouldn't go that far but maybe some resource depletion might have upped the anny some too.
