Tractor Time : The Farmall Cub

Some may disagree but no other tractor had a greater impact on moving small farms and other smaller agricultural endeavors away from horse flesh than the Farmall brand of small tractors.

While I love the work horse Ford tractors those old Farmall Cubs also rate right up there in my view. I say "Cubs" because most people just call all of the little Farmall's cubs. We actually have a Farmall A series down on my parents place that was last overhauled in October 1971 and has been setting in an equipment shed ever since. Sadly they won't let me have it yet but some day it will be at the top of my restoration list I assure you of that.

I can't tell you exactly what model we have in the picture above, whether it is a Cub, A, B or even one of the earlier 100 series tractors but those clean lines and slim long under belly are unique to the Farmall line of small tractors.

There's just nothing else quite like em.

  1. Tractors are becoming quite enjoyable not just a tool but easy on the eyes I like it.

  3. We have an A and a C. One of them is being restored by my husband. The Farmalls are unique for another reason. Ours have downward torque to a degree which is not present in most all of the new tractors. This is especially helpful in properly maintaining farm roads. Ours are still very much in general use, and post restoration look great !

    1. Jane - I love those old smaller model Farmalls. If I didn't already have a Ford the Farmalls would have been my first choice.

  4. There are lots of them in tobacco country setting idle now. Hey does your wife know that you are putting her photo on line?

    1. Sf - International Harvester made those cub types in all sorts of specialty agriculture designs just to break into those markets.
