Another One of Those Days

I believe I mentioned that I was going to start work on the barn gutter system this year to try and figure out some way of saving rain water for the stock and to also keep the water from running right to the back of the barn.

Well I decided that regardless of what I ended up doing I was still going to need some plastic pipe so why not go ahead and run the pipe out above ground to get us through the rainy season? I can always bury it once I get the entire system designed later and it will keep the water away from the trouble spot right now. It will be a pain moving the pipe but during this time of year there isn't a whole lot of vehicles going in and out down there anyway.

So I checked around and found the pipe I needed at a reasonable price, made sure it was in stock and then combined the run with replacing my rain barrel that got destroyed this Winter. Trying to save gas don't ya know.

I head out to leave and something isn't right. Then I realize the high winds last night have not only knocked the plastic crystal shroud from around our dusk to dawn light, leaving a big bare bulb hanging there now, it also pulled the ceramic insulator that mounts the cable to the pole for the electric line that runs to the barn.

Just friggin wonderful.....

The electric line is now hanging only about 10 foot off the ground in the middle where it sags so much without the cable support helping to hold it up. In a few more hours time it might be all the way to the ground. I wonder how much this is going to cost me because I don't think I am going to shimmy up that pole to try and fix it myself. Not even sure I can without a come-along although I might be able to put the bucket on the Massy and reach it.

So I called the guys who replaced that line last year for me. Still no return call BTW as no one seems to actually answer their phones these days.

I run into town and get the ticket for the pipe because it has to be picked up out back of course and I need the truck to haul it. I get the rain barrel (Which is now on sale very cheap one reason I waited). Pay for everything, run around to get my pipe and they are out of stock. The computer (and Online) say they should have 10 of them but they can't find one anywhere. So much for my checking ahead of time huh.

Of course they will order one in for me and all that jazz but now I am going to have to make yet another run in to pick it up and waste more gas.

I will be back later to respond to comments on the other postings in a bit. Right now I have to go hike through the neighbor's corn field because our trash can is about 1/4 of a mile out in said field resting on it's side.

The thunderstorms are getting busy early this year.....

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!

    1. RP - Well the electric guys called me back and said they would be here tomorrow morning first thing. They just restrung that line not 8 months ago so we will see if they charge me.

  2. I haven't seen an insulator fail like that before, must not have been installed right. We are starting to get some wind here and cold is coming to they say.
The grass is growing I saw where the horse had eaten the other day and it was sticking up bright green.

    1. SF - I have seen em come out of poles that were going bad. If that is the case here than since it was the meter pole it's not my problem but the private contractor guys might charge me none-the-less even though they redid the line late last Summer.

  3. We had a very windy day here too. Nothing is more frustrating to me than getting somewhere to get something, and they don't have any. I'm a girl, so you'd think I'd enjoy shopping, nope not me. I really hate it with a passion, although I can tolerate the hardware store more than Walmart or the grocery store.

    1. Izzy - You sound like my kinda girl :)

My wife hates...hates... HATES hardware stores and outdoor stores (except the ones that have girly things in them like Bass Pro). Wanna see her blow a gasket? I wait until we are in this one town and tell her we are swinging by the military surplus store OMG the laughs :)

  4. Someone else had a bad day other then me?? Whoa. On the bright side, with the snow melt my parking pad can fit 3 cars and not a car and a half. Side walk is double the size too.

I have to say at times I don't much appreciate God's sense of humor.

    1. MASR - Well it never fails after I get something fixed that something else breaks on what got fixed. It's funny too how they are usually closely connected.

  6. That's the kind of logistics problem I have. Call somebody and they tell you they have the item. Drive all the way there to get it, and they tell you they "carry" it but it's not "in stock" at the moment.

Things break or fall apart here all the time. Seems like I spend a lot of my life fixing, repairing, or trying to figure out how to do it.

    1. Harry - Ya I do hate running in somewhere and find out I was lied to. In this case though I wanted solid pipe and they had rolls of perforated in the solid bin.

At least the electric guy repaired my downed line at no charge. He put that new line up for me not but about 9 months ago tops and he said it should have lasted longer than that so no charge.

      I like no charge :)
