Back on Cold Weather Watch

Yep back down to single digit cold once again so I have to make myself rise in the middle of the night to re-stoke the furnace and make sure nothing has gone amiss and the pipes have remained above the freezing point.

Not sure where all the geese went today but I guess they could sense the cold front moving in and all took off for some place warmer than the wide open corn stubble fields. Can't say I blame em.

I figure (hope) we are getting our last blast of frigid air this week and then go back to the normal temps but who knows March can be unpredictable to say the least.

The cold does bring a blessing in the frozen ground which means I should be able to get a few things done I been putting off because of the mud.

I think I mentioned the Mrs. purchased a huge cat tower thing and so far it has proven worth the price. The feline horde had completely taken over my seedling starter shelf and were not too keen on abandoning it with all this cold. One of the main blower vents for the furnace blows right across this counter area, which was why I used it for starting seedlings, but it also proved to be the cats favorite napping spot. A little careful arrangement of the new cat tower convinced them that it was much better real estate and now they get to play King of the tower and see which one will claim the highest platform. The normally outdoor cats are getting a bit of cabin fever though but hopefully they can go back out soon.

Soon the real work will begin and it will be back to fighting the rain and the mud. The more restful Winter is coming to a close.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. I never thought a cat tower would work but I guess it is something they can't resist. Careful though, she will soon want to put cat doors in the house so they can come and go as they please.
It is cooling down here but nothing like what you are getting.

  2. We got spoiled with our 70 and 80 degree weather for a week. Todays high is 58 low 38. Tomorrow night we are supposed to freeze again and then do a slow warming. I hope this is the last for us. I am so behind on my outside garden chores and will have to restart all my seeds. All of them croaked. We do what we have to do eh?

  3. Our weather went from Spring to Fall overnight too. Cool with a steady rain today. Think I'll sleep late.

  4. I don't mind cold weather, just don't like the wild swings from warm to cold.
