Why My Bean Shelling is Going Slowly

I think the picture pretty well tells the story for itself.

Damned cat.

He keeps stealing the dried pods and running off with them. The full ones as well as the empty ones. So I put the bean pods away and wait until I think he is asleep but every time he hears a bean pod being broken open he comes running.

A couple of times I told him no enough that he gave up on the bean pods only to turn around and start playing with the actual beans in the bowl.

This goes on until I give up and go back to reading.

Progress is slow.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

    1. Rob - He is the only Tom we have. I have been protecting his balls LOL and won't let the Mrs. get him cut. He was one of the kittens born back in March we couldn't find a home for and bonded with my son so became one of the pets. The first time I have ever been around a cat that was basically hand raised from birth not a stray or something. It gives them a whole different attitude and makes em bolder than other cats.

  2. Maybe I will work on my shell beans tomorrow if the nasty forecast comes true. I have no problem with cats, they are outside and will sometimes get in my lap out there if I am doing something like that but they don't mess with me. We have an understanding.

    1. SF - Well this one is an indoor cat. The Mrs. think all the animals should live inside with us, I just go with it anymore. Wouldn't surprise me to see her bring the sheep inside when it's cold.

  6. Cute..You need to give him his own pile of beans!

I was going to comment on your other post about your cats not wanting to see the bottom of their bowl. Our cats do that too!

    1. MB - He really just wants the pods and runs off with em gets bored with it then comes and snatches another one out of my hand. If I am not handling it it's no fun for him.

I have read a lot of cats act that way with their food bowls but never seen one do it before.

  7. PP - we have a similar problem with one of our cats - he loves celery! so when i am processing veg after a grocery run, or cutting celery to put in food or to snack on, he comes running and jumps on the table and wants to roll in around with the celery - it's absolutely crazy! so every time i am processing or cooking with celery, i have to give him a few tops. he carries those celery around with him for the next few days until i give him more. he doesn't eat the celery - just kinda lays on it and licks it. you need to give your cat a couple of the bean pods to play with while you're shelling!

    3. Awww shucks kymber. Really I am just avoiding the topic. I do love animals but what happens when I can not feed all these strays people drop off here?

I actually have been working on a bean paste in the hopes of finding a supplemental food the cats will eat.

Believe it or not what I really like about cats is watching their social relationships develop. It is amazing how they follow human trends in that regard.

    4. PP -bone broth. there is nothing better for cats than bone broth. take the bones off of all of your human meat, boil them for 8 hours in water and then feed it to your cats. shoot any and all varmints and boil their bones. try feeding your cats raw varmint meat...if they don't like that, then try cooked varmint meat. if they still won't eat it - bone broth buddy!

i know that with someone as resilient as you are, and someone who thinks outside of the box constantly, you'll figure out a way to keep feeding them. on behalf of all of those animals that your softie heart goes out to - thanks buddy! thanks so much!

hey have you checked your emails? i sent you a few doozies that you are gonna get a real chuckle out of!!!

you knows i loves ya! u no hoo
