Now We've Gone frome Strange to Extra Creepy

After I made the last post I went back outside to finish up the last of the preps. The county highway outside the house is pretty busy today which is not unusual for 3:00 or so in the afternoon especially the day before every radio and television station for 100 miles is predicting some major storm coming through.

Let me tell you the news/weather people around here are convinced it's going to be like cold/snow/freezing rain Armageddon or something which probably means we won't get jack... but I digress.

I decided to test my exhaust hole and run the generator for a few minutes plus with the new hole I wanted to see how loud the thing would be buttoned up with the lid closed. The wood around the hole never got that hot as I made it pretty wide and the noise was actually pretty reasonable even right up next to it. I was happy with the outcome.

So I am letting the generator run and putting tarps on my stacked wood and I look over to the road and there is this guy all dressed in black from head to foot with a dark helmet visor to boot on an all black rice burner motorcycle.  I am not sure what type I couldn't see any name on the thing and I couldn't read his license plate.

This motorcycle guy is just stationary and looking at me, or at least his head seemed to be turned in my direction. So not to be out done I turn so my .45 is visible on my hip and stare back at him. Eventually he starts messing with his dials or something on his console and I go back to work. Yet the guy stayed sitting out there for a good 30 minutes in fact he even somehow got my son's notice, which is saying something because my son barely leaves his computer these days. My son actually came outside to see what was up.

That's when motorcycle guy drove off.

I got the impression the guy was younger but honestly I couldn't see any identifying clues about him at all. He could have been purple with orange hair and 90 years old for all I know.

About 10 minutes later he came screaming back from the direction he came from heading East. It was just kinda creepy but that county road is one of the few straight flat stretches of road in the region and it is lightly populated as well so people like to come out here and test their high end speed. Never seen a deputy sheriff out here sitting either.

I will keep the home defense weaponry very handy for a while now though as whoever it was knows I have a generator hidden in the box on the front porch now.

While all this was going on I watched the front move in from the Northwest and the temperatures drop 20 degrees in about an hour. The wind has really picked up and the fire is laid and ready to start.

I hope the bees are as ready for this as we are.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. A windy front came thru here in NW TX about 2:30. Temps have not dropped yet...just strong wind. Hope the icy stuff stays away from everyone. Take care!
    Blessings!

    1. CL - Down to 22 here today now. No ice or snow yet but a little bit of misting last night.

  2. You might want to tie some fishing line onto that generator and run it to something that will make some noise. I haven't run anyone out of here lately, I get some people come in acting like they are lost but it could just be a scout looking for stuff to steal. I have nothing but junk in view. No sign of weather coming any where near us yet, they are saying Friday.

    1. SF - Oh they would have to make some big noise to get that generator out of the box I built besides being right by a window where the dog likes to sleep. Being exposed like I am is bad in some regards but even a quick grab thief would need some big balls to take something so openly here.

  3. You're getting to be as paranoid as I am. Every time the pot chopper comes over my meadow and the dogs go berserk, it pegs my anxiety meter even though I know good and well it's just the forest service types looking for weed farms.

    1. Harry - well it was kinda odd for him to just sit still out there that long.

    2. These days, I swear I just don't know. I am so isolated, and there's really only one way in here, blocked by a locked gate. I know if someone shows up here they either got lost in the forest or they are up to no good. In your case, I suspect erring on the side of caution would be the best bet. Maybe this was just some guy out riding who was taking a break. Maybe it was someone who was looking you over for malevolent reasons. I remember what happened to the bee keeper family in "Alas Babylon."

    3. Harry - Well I haven't heard of any home invasions recently and again it would take some guts to do that here. Anyone with any real scouting ability would know that unless they hit me between 6pm and 7am there usually isn't a full hour that goes by without someone close driving by here. My mother is about 5 foot tall and she loves driving her big truck around so she feels tall for a change.

Seriously though she goes by here at least every few hours all day, every day and with her cell phone network she knows when there is a vehicle that doesn't belong here sometimes faster than I do when I am at home.

    1. Russ - Well he knows I am armed at least now and that there are two grown males here. I am most worried about midnight invasions more than anything else though.

  6. There are no coincidences these days.... sounds like it was a scout to me.

    1. As a matter of fact, I had a similar issue almost 4 years ago with two democrats scouting my neighbors house in broad daylight. I won't say what I did, because it was pretty stupid in retrospect, but they never came back.

    2. Matt - Well if he was scouting he now knows I go around armed and that there is a second grown male around here during the day along with a medium sized dog. In fact the neighbor dog was up here then too and he is a BIG dog about doberman sized.

Then again if he was scouting who knows how big a force he was scouting for?
