A Strange Day

I hit the ground running this morning as I had a fair amount of running to do and it included going to the grocery store and the last thing I wanted was to get tied up behind a bunch of old ladies with coupons the day before a predicted snow storm.

Trust me. Don't ever do that.

It was so strange by the time I left the house at 8AM it was already well into the 50's temp-wise and by the time I drove into town for my first stop to buy ice-melt and a new snow shovel I had taken off my long sleeved shirt and was just wearing a light t-shirt.

I passed a bank that had the temperature up on their sign and it said 62 degrees. 62 and I am buying ice-melt and a snow shovel LOL.

I didn't need much at the grocery store mostly just the standard junk food my son goes through each week like frozen burritos and pizzas, that type of thing. I passed on buying meats because I have been ordered to have the freezers down for lamb butchering next month.

Filled up my gas cans on the way home, unloaded the groceries and then headed right back out and cut another load of firewood. This time it was all big stuff that is going to need splitting before I burn it.

Since we are forecast to have freezing rain and temps in the teens and lower 20's for tomorrow I am leaving the wood on the truck for weight in case things get really bad.

I had all my running and a load of wood cut by 1:30 and then got started on the last bit of my generator preps which entailed cutting a hole in the side of it's storage box so the muffler wouldn't burn the thing down. I still need to put the tarp over the firewood stacked next to the furnace and I am done with storm preps.

It isn't often I get to prep for a single digit temps and freezing rain in a t-shirt.

It just seems somehow very wrong.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

    1. ST - Yep. I started my fire tonight so it is actually a bit over warm inside right now but the temps are dropping fast. Thermometer is saying 35 now.

  2. No jacket here this afternoon, I didn't complain as I am tired of wearing the heavy coat. I didn't go near the grocery store.

    1. Sf - Well lol I guess we had it good for the last couple of weeks why you had teens and frost. It's your turn for some warmth.

    1. JuGM - God bless em. I just get so frustrated as it takes sooooooo much extra time. I have yet to see a coupon user not have at least one questionable purchase that requires a wait for a manger and approval and ends up eating at least 10 minutes.

  5. Hunker down and enjoy it, if possible. You are probably more prepared than 99.9% of the people I know. So what books do you have set back for the weather event?

    1. K - Ya we are good. We could go weeks if we needed too although we would have internet withdrawal no doubt.

I got two books downloaded but I think I will see what they have on the cheap sale list just in case. I also have so many books laying around here I bought and never read it isn't a real issue.

  6. I hope that stuff isn't as bad as the Weather channel is predicting. If it is, a lot of people are going to be without power for awhile, and most of them won't have done anything to guard against the possibility.

  7. To deal with the old coupon ladies, your going to have to get a cc permit for that cattle prod of yours.

Or just open carry and deal with the odd looks.
