Bad Things Happen in Threes
At least the wait is over. Monday morning when the wife's car blew up I told her then we had two more breakages coming that week. This whole Summer has been costly repair bills one after the other so I am getting used to it.
Thursday as I gunned my engine to race out into traffic at a busy intersection I managed to break my exhaust pipe on the truck. So that was number two.
Then last night late I noticed some water leaking around the toilet. Sigh.
Of course each thing has to be in an area that I know little about or cannot really fix myself. The exhaust pipe requires a bit of welding and shouldn't be too expensive but I of course do not have a welder yet. The money I had set aside for that went into the transmission :)
The toilet needs the part that comes up into the tank from the water line. The one the float turns off and on. It looks to be an easy fix except of course I am experienced with plumbing enough to know the trick isn't in finding a part.... The trick is finding the part that fits. I have never had good luck with all the different sizes and types of stuff out there when it comes to plumbing.
Since it is raining this morning I guess I will head off into town once again and attempt to find the part I need. I am not filled with confidence my search will prove productive but I need to try.
It maybe Fall but the Summer of constant repair bills continues.
Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

At least you have the opportunity to get the parts and the repairs done while we have something that vaguely resembles an economy.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike. I just got outta the shower and and had that thought firmly in my head that maybe this was actually a good thing getting all these repair issues out of the way.
DeleteThanks Matt that made my day!!!
Its probably Bushes fault.. : ) lol
ReplyDeleteIt always is lol.
DeleteThanks JuGM
The house of representatives are the cause of all his bad luck.
ReplyDeleteJF - Up until this last week I didn't think they could do anything or at least anything good :)
DeleteSo you maybe right.
Sorry PP. That and all the attacks going on in Blog Wars. Its been a busy week. The sun will raise tomorrow and the battles will rage on.
ReplyDeleteRob - OH I got the toilet problem figured out. Of course I had to buy two so called universal replacement parts and strip a few things off the broken one to make a hybrid that worked. But it came together finally.
DeleteI think it is funny myself to be honest. The Blog war thing I mean. My opinion the Blogs are a place to be truthful with yourself, your opinions and everyone else's besides. I don't think someone should be mean for the sake of being mean but being overly polite when someone is wrong is doing everyone a dis-service.
I away from the PC all morning, so Matt et al beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteRe: the toilet repair, that's a very easy fix. Take a cellphone pic of the part while the tank is drained & head over to a hardware store. Chances are they'll have the same model in stock. Just remember to turn off the water line to the device, or you & the bathroom floor get wet pretty quickly.
Ask me how I figured that one out. :)
RP - PIc... Why I removed the damned part and took it with me :)
DeleteAnd I still couldn't find an absolute match. I had to buy two so called universal ballcocks and switch parts around to get one hybrid to work and it still has the bowl fill tube bent at a weird angle.
It works anyway but I am not convinced it isn't going to mess up at some point and it takes twice as long to refill the tank now.
I have had some experience with this before so I knew going in about the cut off valve on the floor :)
I feel your pain. I opened the shop this morning for business and noticed the A/C was blowing warm air. Went outside to check it and the compressor is burnt out. Cha-ching. Called for help. They said expect them before noon. I had to close the doors early...customers were given towels to wipe their brows. It never stops, this blood bath of worthless money. Think I'll relax and buy an ounce of silver. Oh, still waiting for the repair men.
ReplyDeleteMan I hate waiting for repairmen. It seems to me so many things just don't last like they used to. I know old guys like me been sayign that for centuries but damnit it seems to be true :)
DeleteAs it turned out I wasn't done. I noticed water on the floor and then found out I had cracked the case on the in flow line. So another trip into the hardware store to replace that item.
Seems to be all working fine now... knock on wood.
