So everything went fine on the computer switch around and sorta sidegrade kinda thing. I am now running Windows 7 and once again my graphics software works so I can start uploading pictures and such.
Hardware-wise we figured out that my old mother board or CPU had a problem which is what was giving me the frequent blue screens and memory problems. When we tried installing Windows 7 on my old system it would blow up every time. Luckily my son's old computer was the same speed and such so we transferred everything over and I was up and running in no time.
I began updating all my stuff, logging into websites re-entering pass words etc. you know the drill and finally started a long download for one of my programs and went to bed.
Friday morning I wake up to my son pulling his hair out because, once again, the internet was down.
This is becoming an almost bi-monthly experience these days. The excuse we got this time when they showed up this afternoon to fix it was their local router was blown out or some such BS. All I know now is it is so slow video blocks won't even load on web pages. It took almost 5 minutes for the posting new content screen to load on blogger and after 10 minutes news sites like Drudge are still "transferring data".
More than likely it's going to take me the rest of the day to get things running again and who knows how long it's going to be until we have useful internet again.
I really wish there was a different provider to switch to out here because Century Link SUCKS!!!

They won't run cable to our house, not enough wire in the world I guess so I had to go with a line of sight setup to a tower on a mountain. It worked fine until they started messing with the equipment but I finally got it straight but you first have to prove it is their problem. They don't work too hard on things over the weekend though.
ReplyDeleteWe almost went with Century, The guy was setting up Mediacom, and we had internet in less an 30min, Century was going to be two more days.
