A Gentle Shift

A friend of mine once said I had the patience of a rock. He was right for the most part but it isn't always a virtue as the old saying would try and make you believe. Today as I went into town for a grocery run I went past the shop that still holds my truck hostage and it was not up on the lift as he promised me it would be. In fact the little blue car that had been there and was reported as being the hold up occupying the space my truck needed for repairs was gone and some old beater truck (even more old beater than mine by about 20 years) was in there.

I had to stop and give him the evil eye. I need my truck. It's been almost a month now I think since it's been sitting there waiting. I haven't been pushy and been my normal patient self but the time is almost here when I will be able to get some work done outside again and I need my truck...damnit.

Anyway the subtle shifts were more apparent today even than yesterday. For one thing Drones are now coming and going in the garden hive once again. We did not manage to dodge the thunderstorm front that moved through and had at least an inch of rain dumped on us which set back the drying once again but this storm was much different than all the others this year.

We have now moved into what I call the fast storm period. From February to usually April we get storms that last for days but they slowly begin dwindling into fast moving thunderstorms in late April and May and will then run like that lessening in moisture amounts until they are usually gone by July. Scattered thunderstorms are what they are usually called and can produce heavy rains but they are gone fast and the sun returns quickly. They also can be dangerous for their speed and incredibly high winds (think tornado weather). On the plus side however it overall means we have turned a corner and will usually begin a general drying out period. It is also the prime swarm period.

For some reason I cannot explain the bees love to use the time right after a thunderstorm when the sun comes back out nice and hot to initiate a swarm. I have seen massive swarms decide it is their time under those conditions over and over the last few years.

So we have drones and it looks like the ideal weather conditions. I just need my truck.....

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  2. I live in Dixie Alley in Alabama. I really hate days of scattered thunderstorms.

  3. Has it been a whole month? Wow! And people accuse (sometimes correctly) Southerners of being slow.
