I have about had it with Blogger now. For almost the last two weeks whenever I make a new post it sits there for hours and hours before it updates to other blog feeds.
Yesterday I finished cleaning the chicken coop and noticed I had an hour or so until time to feed so I got my daily post out of the way. It did not register on other blogs or even in my own blog list until after midnight. By the time it did register it was already halfway down the list in most blogrolls and looked like an out dated old post.
This is not a new problem but it appears to be getting worse as time goes by. It is also not some weird problem only associated with my blog either as I have seen others also complaining about this issue and even contacted one or two. We have attempted to contact the Blogger staff about it with no results other than condescending statements like "well not everyone can be on top" kinda stuff.
I find it annoying to the point of frustration to be honest and when I get this frustrated with something I begin to lose interest if I cannot solve the problem.
At this point I am not sure what I am going to do about it. It has been suggested that I need to open up the blog account to the google id thing but honestly I don't like that idea. They ask for a little too much information I am reluctant to give. I am also thinking about moving to Wordpress as well.
I recently started a Twitter feed where I am linking my posts and putting up a daily tractor picture tweet as well as links to articles and things I find useful to preppers. Click on the link and follow if you want.
So at this point things are up in the air. Not sure what I am going to do about it but taking 8 hours or more (sometimes days) for the feed to update a new post is just not something I can live with. I am sure the blog data has somehow gotten corrupted and is causing this issue. I have went through and removed blogs from my personal feed that have not posted in years but that didn't seem to help.
Stay tuned and we will see where this leads. That is tomorrow when you finally see this post is up anyway.
Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!!!
I just noticed that today about blog feeds. Google is pretty bad about consistency in anything. Seems like everything goes into the current project while everything else goes to pot. I put up with blogger because I like it better than wordpress, although weebly has some nice templates and set-ups.
ReplyDeleteWhat get's me about this is it obviously isn't effecting everyone. Only a few blogs seem to be effected as bad as this one and it's been happening off and on for years now. This time is the worst I have seen it in quite a while however. A minimum of 8 hours to update a new post?
DeleteThat's simply unacceptable.
It's not just you PP. I have seen my posts sit twenty hours and move down the blogroll with several posts after. I honestly don't know how it's supposed to work, but I have a general idea. I am sure someone out there knows how to get them to update quicker. There is one blogger out there whose blog updates my posts within minutes. I don't get it.

DeleteAsk them how they do it.

Extex - I notice your posts seem to show up within a very few minutes on my blog roll. Or they have the last few days anyway when I been paying particularly close attention.
DeleteI don't know I used to be able to jump start the refresh on them. Nothing seems to be working now though.
They have to sit in line and wait for Obumer to approve them, sometimes he is playing golf and sometimes sleeping, that leaves a big delay.
ReplyDeleteI actually had one pop right up the other day, first time in months that there wasn't a half day delay. I doubt have google would make much difference as that is my login. I tried wordpress and didn't like it at all.
Sf - I have wondered a time or two if maybe it doesn't have something to do with complaints about content to be honest. Actually though your blog is the one I see that has this same issue often too and your content is never questionable.
DeleteI've found that if you do the post as a scheduled post then it shows up a lot quicker - not sure if that helps or not? That's why mine always go out at 6 in the morning.
ReplyDeleteKev - I may have to try scheduling again. I really just plop down and post when I find the time though so it's kinda a pain.
DeleteI'm with Kev, if I already have a post for that day I will shedule something for the next day at 7 am. Could it be to do with the time of day you are posting and the use of bandwidth in your area? I am approx 16 miles from a large town and 6 from a largish village. our village is on a spur, we complained about download speed (we have amazon prime) and they said to us it is because we are a Spur and the whole village use is high in the evening when we want to watch a free movie from Amazons list. So evenings would be a higher strain on it. So I type it all out and let it go in the morning when not so many people are online. Try it. see if it updates straight away like this.
DeleteHeh, I went and clicked on your old post to see if you had updated it. And you had. I don't know. I figured it was on my end. It appears to me like Internet Explorer keeps an un-updated cache of my blog so nothing happens when I refresh it. Sometimes it changes when I refresh and sometimes not. I really can't determine a pattern. I dunno, it's all free so I can't really complain too much.
ReplyDeleteJohn - I am sure it's not the browser at this point. It has to be an internal thing with the feed across the board. I have cleared my cache completely and still not gotten an update.
DeleteBah, who needs a blog roll. I check your site at least 4 times a day to see if anything new is happening.
ReplyDeleteTry switching over to Wordpress. I had to move my jew stuff from Blogger to WP as they kept deleting my entries like blocking my Eternal Jew video as "hate." Yeah, and your point? Hahaha!

You can dress it up by upgrading but I'm too cheap.
