Another Trip Into the Argument Zone

So again they called me in to take another trip into Kansas today. Set me up with pretty much the same crew of "retirees" to go with again which still baffles me to no end. I know for a fact a couple of them have had to up their blood pressure medicine after being trapped with me in a vehicle for a few hours.

So here we are. Seven of us. Five public service "retirees" who were all out and living the easy life on defined benefit pensions before they were 58, one guy who was actually a general manager for another dealership so I can't hold that against him, and good old anti-government, no one deserves a public pension me.

Can you imagine?

They just can't resist attempting to get into it with me and then can't accept the consequences of their actions.

Mostly I declined to rise to the bait today although I did get one of em riled up as he went off on a tirade about the Ferguson protesters and how the MU thing was connected. They weren't happy when after they complained about the football team being allowed to continue to go to MU pissed em off and I mentioned that they were all still glued to their TV's watching these games every Sunday though. Perhaps if they were so sick of all this power the team had they should stop giving it to them in the form of their money and time.

Needless to say they didn't like that answer anymore than the one last week about immigrants needed to pay their retirements.

I am totally convinced these days that 99% of the people out there really do think money grows on trees and the laws of action/reaction have no bearing on them what-so-ever. No one seems to actually ask themselves why something is the way it is or bother to follow the money and see who ultimately benefits.

To me a blind man should be able to see if you idolize a group for athletics or acting/singing you are at best promoting a talent that has no real use in a leadership role and at worst you are promoting the type of outrageous behavior and power trips we see happening today. Yet even after this betrayal these same complainers will throw on their black and gold and cheer adoringly while spending millions on the game.

Once again something that seems so simple to me appears to be against the very fabric of human nature in some way.

Then again I never have heard an explanation for why they feel they are entitled to retire at 54 while the private sector has to wait until 67 now either.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!!

    1. RP - ya know I just don't get it. How can a bunch of men sit around and bitch about communist this or privilege that all the while retiring 15 years or more before all the private sector workers and think they are not part of the problem?

It just makes no sense to me.

  2. Expecting economic literacy from a group of people who sought out "work" most divorced from actual economics and actual supply/demand is like expecting a tick to understand predation's necessity for an ecosystem.

Even a wolf serves a function in nature. It's a much harder case to be made for parasites. I would argue the same thing about criminals vs government bureaucrats.

    1. Ody - I see your point. Although I did think crooks and government bureaucrats were the same thing :)

  3. the devotion to athletics and actors/singers/celebrities is part of bread and circuses.
it astounds me how umbilically attache people are to television.
it makes those who stare at it as bereft of analytical thought as cows munching grass in a field.
you can see their eyes glaze.
no hope there of making an impression.

unless you just like the argumentation in order to while away the monotonous hours spent driving, it is a lost cause.

    1. Deborah - You're right of course. I am not the type to with hold my opinion just to make someone else feel they are right though. If they want to go there I will tell em how I feel.

  5. How about if they retire the benefits are delayed until 67 but at a far less amount than if they pulled their weight the whole time? The word retiring shouldn't even be used, that person basically just quit their job if it were a private company.
I don't watch paid sports anymore, why would I want to watch a group of millionaires play ball, sports are something you should do yourself, watching gets boring after awhile.

  6. No sports here.
Yeah our dog is so strange. When those chickens got out there were some that took us days to find because he had them stashed. I would hear a bunch of squawking and see him carrying one across the yard and have to go rescue it. It would be all slimmed from where he had licked it but not hurt.

    1. Lisa - LOL that is just the strangest thing I have ever heard. I had a dog once that was so into babies she would steal any baby she could find and attempt to mother it. Kittens, puppies, lambs, the next door neighbor's kid and I thought that was odd behavior.

  7. I feel your pain...I'm not sure what makes "us" us and "them" them. We live in the same world, have access to the same TV, radio, internet etc. I think they were likely dropped on their heads when they were born.. I can't reason it any other way.

    1. Izzy - Well I am sure that most of them that secured those government jobs were just so isolated from reality that they will never get it. Until It comes to get them anyway.

  8. Did my dad get a job there and not tell me?

He retired at 57 with a gold plated pension, and every weekend is glued to the TV watching football and hockey. He has a 2000 sq. ft. house, a winter retirement property in Arizona (my parents are Canadian Snow Birds) - and it makes me want to puke when those two idiots start whining about how those EEEEEEEEEVIL execs and CEO's and those EEEEEEEEVIL rich people are all conspiring to shaft the poor working man.

Once I piped up and told them that - yeah, maybe we SHOULD take money away from rich people and redistribute it among the more deserving poor - starting with THEIR money first! They got hurt and offended and were shocked that I would say such a nasty thing! They WORKED for their money, dontchya know!!!! When I pointed out to them that their generation has spent their grandchildren into penury they went sullen and silent.

Those immigrants are no answer either - the human sewage coming out of Africa are immigrants that want to go on the same dole the retired snivel servants are.

Yep - I'm prepping. Lots of ammo, lots of popcorn...

    1. Glen Filthie - Very well said and explained. Doesn't it just make ya want to throw something heavy at these types who are skimming off the public dime for literally decades and then convinced they worked for it and are owed it?

I have to just shake my head.

  9. When you have a really large system, small individual actions don't have an impact. The negative feedback loop knocks things back in line. But if the behavior itself isn't suppressed, the aggregate of individual behaviors becomes a trend, and the system can very much change.

    They will see.

Their most foolish choice was believing that a political system needs to keep its pension promises. A lot of folks took up government jobs on the promise of security and a pension, and are at the edge of discovering what is going to happen to those promises when it is no longer convenient to a political system to keep them.

    1. Russ - I know you are right but I been watching and waiting for that hammer to fall for years now and so far nothing more than a few cuts here and there. Seems the government would rather scalp the investors over the pension suckers.
