Another Piece of Equipment Added

Ever since I started the implement collection adventure my dad has been telling me to find him a car hauler trailer. He has been wanting one, or at least telling me he wanted one, for years now so I have always kept my eye out for any I see listed anywhere.

Of course he had a list of specifics that made it a bit more difficult and was convinced he would eventually find the perfect used one that he wanted. A new one costs about 2K or so but I think looking at all the trailers and hitting the auctions we have has been more the actual goal of his search than really finding one.

By now though, having looked and bid on a couple of dozen trailers for him over the years I was pretty sure I knew exactly what he wanted and for about what price. Last night I was searching through all my typical online classifieds, from Criagslist to autofinder blah blah blah and I saw the above trailer listed for $1500.00 and it was only about 15 miles down the road from us. I set up a time and we went and looked at it this morning.

To my complete surprise he bought the thing. I wouldn't say it was a huge deal but the price was fair or maybe a bit on the cheap side for our area from what I have seen. 16 ft. long by 6.5 wide, 8000 lb, dual axle with the brake on one, 2000 lb 12 volt winch with a mount, pretty brand new looking floor boards, 2 inch hitch and 3500 lbs at the hitch pull. Just a good solid trailer. All the lights worked and they were LED, tires looked good and the seller knew his stuff and said he had just repacked the bearings before selling it.

When I bought my last tractor I ended up borrowing the same kind of trailer from work to go get it and when my brother bought his last 67 Camaro to hotrod out we had to rent a car hauler. Guess we got one in the family now.

The added bonus is I am the only one in the family with any place to keep the thing so it now lives out in my growing trailer and implement barn lot. If I ever get the fence project finished I plan on putting up at least an awning to park all this stuff under.

The lambs were properly curious when I brought the thing in too. They absolutely LOVE new trailers and implements and several of the whethers had already worked out a pecking order over who was going to get to lounge on the new trailer. So far I wrap the tongues and wires in plastic and no one has chewed anything up and as an added bonus the sheep have kept the grass down all around the stuff too. I really can't complain about the arrangement until I get an equipment awning built and now I have a good sized flatbed trailer for other chores as well.

If I had only had the thing last week when I was towing that hay rake though.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!!!

    1. Kymber - Story of my life in so many ways. I am not totally sure the rake would have fit on it though. Not sure I could get the tooth carriage up high enough to clear the fenders.

  3. That is a key piece of equipment that will pay for itself and allow you to be on the spot to catch some good deals. I could have used it many times.

    1. Sf - Ya. Get this. Dad has decided we should look into buying and reselling some implements. Fix em up, that type of thing. Said he put 10K in an account to start doing it. We will see.

    1. DB - She is attempting to over do her recovery and since she has stopped taking that one pill she isn't nearly as agreeable as she was. Luckily like most people with a liberal bent she will listen to her doctor (as long as it is a Woman) and her doc put the brakes on her going back to work full time agenda. She is still on half days.

    1. John - My dad has been saying he wanted one for years but always found a reason not to buy one. I was really surprised he bought this one as a matter of fact.

  8. I just bought a trailer too. I am so pleased with it. I have actually used it every single day for multiple projects. I can now go get my car cleaned and not have to worry about getting dirt or hay or trash all over the back seat. Everything fits on the trailer and my car stays nice and clean.
