Official Rain Rant, The New Ram and Why is Bubba's Blog Restricted?
Went and picked up the new Registered Blue Faced Leicester Ram today. He is a good looking fella. Nice easy going, very gentle, didn't even get excited about the loading, transport or unloading. He seemed to like his new digs especially since I let the grass get really thick in there for him.
He is a bit over two years old now so he should start really packing on the size over this next year. I really would have preferred a White Ram but my Mother is obsessed with colored sheep for her hand spinning.
We are calling him Coco and I noticed right off the bat he responds much better to the ladies than to me unlike Frazier our other ram who seems to have zero respect for two legged Women. Really watching him with the ewes he has zero respect for the four legged ones too. Anyway Coco would walk away when I came close but was all lovey dovey on the wife. Guess I can't blame a guy for that.
He got to introduce himself to all the lady sheep through the fence and some of them seemed very interested in the new arrival already. I told them hussies we would have none of that yet they still have children to raise.
He also has Bubba sized balls it seems. Speaking of Bubba. Why is his blog private now and why was I not invited? Where ya at Bubba? What's going on?
Did I mention rain? Well it poured down so hard today that when I went and opened the pasture gate to let the flock go into the barn out of the rain I had to go back and help two of the lambs across the run off stream behind the barn. Seriously it was almost over the top of my rubber boots it was coming down so hard and two of the lambs were afraid to cross it to get inside the dry barn. I am now officially gonna bitch about the rain.
It has rained like every day for over a week at least in some amount and I don't think I have seen the sun in 10 days now. The only saving grace is that it hasn't been too hot but all this rain has stunted about a quarter of my Buckwheat plants. It's also breeding flies like crazy and everything smells like a swamp or an old wet dog or worse because everything is constantly damp. It hasn't killed the Pumpkins yet but because it has been so cool and no sun they are losing the battle with the weeds and it's too wet for me to do much to help them either. We have also been getting several floods up here as well with more than a few deaths and the ants are moving into buildings, bee hives, anywhere dry and causing even more problems than the pesky flies.
I am putting up new fly strips almost hourly and the doors and windows are covered with the filthy things as they wait to rush in whenever an opening presents itself.
It is literally a fly plague I kid you not.
The solar electric fence chargers are running out of juice. I cannot get the diesel tractor out of the barn because there is now a pond where the door opens and it would sink to it's belly if I tried. I have to mow the various yards I take care of in parts because it never stops raining long enough to get even one finished completely. The frames in my swarm traps are molding and the poor bees haven't hardly been out of their hives in like two weeks.
Friggin Stop Raining Damnit!!!!!
Keep Prepping Everyone!!!!!
