Utopia - This ought to be fun

Ya I know another (yawn) reality show. I actually am kinda interested in this show however. Not because of the entertainment value but because of the human interaction aspect of it.

The premier didn't disappoint me at all actually.

Aside from the fact that the same old Hollyweirdo casting arrangements were used to fill the slots. For instance only allowing dorky, old or outright ass-hat White men in while making sure they find the most attractive younger Black men to tip the scales and then selecting only younger women or those who wish they were younger to manipulate and reduce the relationship pool into the miscegenation fest they desire. I am not sure what the actual behind the scenes ground rules are yet.

They make it sound like there is limited food and such but that didn't stop all the Women but one or two from lounging around drinking orange juice all day at the pond naked while the men took turns working. That is most of the men except for the one young guy who managed to hook up with the little Asian chick the first night. I guess those two are just off together somewhere.

I must say it didn't take long for the fireworks to start with almost all the men already being at one another's throats in random pairings off and on during the first episode. One particular White chick who is reported to be 43 years old and a "prepper" is a real two faced trouble maker and has manipulated a couple of the face offs either on purpose or subconsciously.

They have already had one kangaroo court and almost threw the large White guy who is rather vulgar and can't handle his alcohol out of the compound. The Blonde Prepper chick actually told the guy she supported his right to stay and then when he was gone changed her mind and threw him under the bus.

So far I didn't get the impression this thing is particularly staged which is why I am interested. If I ever determine that it is I will done with it but right now I want to see how far they will let things deteriorate. If they do keep them supplied with food the entire potential for the thing will be blown however because I want to see how things develop when times get tough.

Who knows maybe they will surprise me.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. There was a great series on channel four tgis year on over here called bear grylls the island. I'm not a fan of his but he wasn't in it much. They had very little to eat and it showed the group dynamic. Even the camera men were part of the group so no contact for a month and only what food they could catch or find. Only men as well so no one trying to impress anyone. I was transfixed by this programme. I think you can get it up on YouTube, definitely worth a watch.

    1. KV - I should check that out. Often times the European programs like that are so much more realistic than the US ones in many ways. I am usually not a big fan of survival shows because they are so staged, faked or manipulated but I am generally interested in social interaction dynamics IF the powers that be can let things go far enough. I would like to see someone do a show like that out on an island in International waters but I don't think there are any anymore.

  2. Not to mention the age old trick of having more men than women!

    1. Anon - Good catch. I guess I wasn't counting the pastor guy, lawyer or short gun nut as players in that arena which was my oversight. Of course the pregnant Black woman alludes to be gay, however that works. Hmmmm. Ya know though I read an article about it that had two different women mentioned and the originals and didn't show the skinny old White guy or the Black ex-con. Maybe they are gone by the next episode?

    1. Rob - I will prolly watch it until I figure out the boundaries they have set for themselves and the show then will get bored.

  4. The premise for the show is good, if they don't toy with it too much. Like you, I like to watch group dynamics at work.

Perhaps, they should do a show on a prepper group, and set them out on their own. It could/would show what works, and what skills a group is lacking. A very slim margin of hope to show the practical and logical side of a prepper group? Probably not gonna happen.

    1. K - The problem I have with these shows is they cannot play them out with the most important aspect of living after a collapse. The lack of laws. That's why I would like to see em somewhere that hasn't been claimed yet but I don't any place like that exists. They also always provide them a safety net and so the women especially realize they have daddy state still hovering over them keeping them safe.

Those two factors mean we never see how the true interaction would be.

  5. It sounds like they set up a strange group to set up a Utopia with. But longing around while others work for you sounds nice.

    1. Russ - Ya I can see that one coming to a head fast especially if resources get low. But as I said to K they still know the rule of law is on their side so it will be interesting how it plays out. I am sure the women will resist until the end.
