Harry - Ya it's been a while since I went shooting and I have had this pretty little 50 cal hawkins carbine in my gun closet for over three years begging me to shoot her. I figured it was about time.
They were shooting the flintlock at work today and broke the ram rod, I never heard how that happened. I just use a non authentic fiberglass one. Have fun, Your new batch of tractor girls look like they will get the weeding done while you are away.
Sf - I got a brass rod I use so as not to break the one that comes with the rifle. One of the first things an old pro BP shooter taught me was never to push the rod but to really just punch it kinda with the palm. It makes it much easier. I have never messed with flintlocks only cap locks but someday I am going to pick a flintlock up as well.
Flintlock is the ultimate grid down weapon especially if you can make your own black powder. The key with a flintlock is to not put much powder in the pan, it takes a little longer for a pile of powder to burn, I used to grind some into dust and use that for priming, just a thin coating. Ka Pow instead of Ka Swosh Pow.
Sounds like it's time you took a break anyway, might as well take maximum advantage of the cool weather.

DeleteSf - Ya that's why I wanna flintlock. I have actually made my own blackpowder only took like months to make enough for maybe one shot :) But still....
DeletePP,
ReplyDeleteIt's about time you took the day off. Now go have fun shooting black powder and tell us all about it when you return.
Sandy - Thanks. I had a good time and yes a day off was needed. I made my son finish mowing the lawn while I was gone :)
DeleteI hope you had a great time and are unstressed. Big kymber laugh....
ReplyDeleteRob - The little girl made a satisfying roar. :)
