Going Back to Prep Level 4

Since the EBT and Food stamp fiasco seems to have been fixed things have settled down once again. Of course we have yet to see what November's cuts will do for things.

Still I am bumping the prep level back down to 4.

I know that it is marginal that the many clashes and riots can be considered "large Scale" but the declining and breaking down infrastructure is there and I like to err by rounding upwards. We maybe closer to level 3 in some ways but not others.

Regardless we can go from close to break down over night so always keep that in mind.

Extended unemployment is set to run out for those states who are still receiving them in January. Many States (like my own) are not eligible for those benefits any longer but enough are that it could cause more upheaval.

Stay Tuned and...

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. I suspect that the next dip will be early next year when retail stores that didn't sell enough over the holidays and are getting hit with obama care will close. It could be some normally small event that will be the tipping point.

    1. SF - Yes Black Swans are always the issue and always likely which is why level 4 and 5 are not really very far apart in my opinion. Things can go down hill fast.

  2. The last time the 99 weeks of unemployment insurance ran out, an amazing thing happened: many of those folks "suddenly" found work.

This time around, there probably aren't enough jobs to let that happen again.

SF is correct: many small events, happening simultaneously, will be more than the system can absorb.

    1. RP - I am not so sure that many of them found work. The disabled rolls grew dramatically and I know guys who are still looking after almost three years.

You are correct about there not being enough jobs period.

  3. I'm taking it day to day. It does seem like things have cooled off some, but on the other hand a lot of people who use food stamps to eat are going to be further squeezed by the reductions. Some of those are good people, not spongers. It's the latter class that might go high and right.

    1. Harry - Well I pushed the level upto 5 only because of the riots over the last food stamp fiasco. But as I said above 4 and 5 are not that far apart and either one could go over the cliff suddenly.
