Well Here's a Sign I missed

Almost 10 years ago after my dad's wife passed on he up rooted everything he owned and sold it off. Everything from the farm and tractors to fireplace pokers. This included a number of things he later on wished he hadn't sold and a few items I am still giving him a ration of crap about selling as well. Anyway the only reason this is relevant is after he sold everything and invested the proceeds yadda yadda he went and bought himself a trailer and lot in what he determined to be the best trailer court that could be found in the immediate area.

He rightly figured he would be more than able to live off his investments in retirement if he downsized this way and since it was just him no one would be around to whine about it either. I hafta say he was right about it or has been so far yet now even his small yard he has around his trailer is getting to be too much for him so I go over every Sunday and spend some time with him and do whatever work needs to be done. During the colder months he goes with me when I cut firewood and does whatever he feels like doing. He still helps me quite a bit but needs frequent rest breaks but for all I care he could just hang out I just want him there in case I have an accident and this way I can check on him every Sunday all year long.

On my way over there today I passed three trailers with all their furniture thrown out in the yard and street and another two empty lots where trailers had been last Sunday.

Yep you guessed it all evictions or repossessions.  One of them my dad knew fairly well and he mentioned the guy had just abandoned the trailer and willingly let it be repossessed but the others looked like they had been rather traumatic affairs.

Here is my take on things. We are seeing this collapse beginning to really gobble up the lowest tier of our population now. The middle class still isn't hurting as bad but those who were living on the edge before are now beginning to fall off faster.

We will see.

Just another sign I noticed. The first time I have seen that in this particular area before but I only go through there once a week usually.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. What a shame. I hope we have a soft landing but just in case I'm strapping a pillow to my butt.

    1. Stephen - I really would not want to be in debt in anyway right now. Not even renting as you can find yourself out at the whim of others.

    1. And a broke government is the most fearful of all.

  3. The typical bad decision was back when everyone retired to Florida.

It works great when you are mobile enough to enjoy the sun, but on both sides of my family we have had problems with retired folks who are too far away to easily support as they get older.

    1. Russ - Ya those older folks so far away from family support may feel it worse than any others.

      Good point.
