Drying Out Day 1 and I Need Some Small Tire Advice

If we get another day or so like today I will definitely be able to get out in the garden and get some planting done. Of course they are now predicting another jet stream dip bringing that lousy Canadian cold back down into my area for Thursday and Friday so at this point I am unsure if I should go ahead and plant or not.

By late morning the combination of the Sun and pleasantly warm and dry Southwest wind had already begun drying out the high areas of the garden. By mid Afternoon I was actually able to walk out into the tilled soil a little ways without sinking down very far. It was still too wet to work up or plant in but it came a long way in only one dry morning.

The humming birds are also back and I am totally unprepared for them as I forgot to replace my busted feeders from last year. The Red buds are in full bloom and had bees working them today and the apples are now leafed out and beginning to bloom themselves. Only the real hardwoods like the oaks, hickory and walnut have yet to sprout leaves and their buds are begging to open as well.

The next item on my fix or repair list now is my wheel barrow tires. I have a really nice wheel barrow one of those with the twin front tires but both of them went flat this Winter and will not hold air. I am not sure if the bead is just not sealing or if there is an actual hole but they go flat pretty damned fast. I was going to just purchase some never flat tires for it but the rims on the tires have a pretty good sized sleeve sticking out from them and I am not sure the new ones I can get will fit.

any ideas on what to do out there? I have zero experience with little utility tires like these and that extension that goes over the drive shaft looks permanently attached so buying new tires with the rims already on seems useless as they won't fit. I thought about filling the tires with something but I just don't know what my options are and as I said I have no experience in this area of little cheap utility tires.

I kinda need the wheel barrow up and running for my next projects.

Anyway guess I will keep researching this.

Keep Prepping Everyone!!!

  1. you could try tractor supply and see if they have something to match I just searched tires on the site and they have some never flats that look close to your pic I don't know if that's your actual tire but maybe you can find what you need there

    1. Thanks Stevie I actually took them in to my mechanic. The one who still hasn't fixed my tranny on the truck. Anyway he promised me he would have them repaired and in such a way they wouldn't go flat again unless I put a hole in em.

      We will see.

  2. PP,

It is nice to be able to get outside and work a little in the garden without having mud up to your knees. Temperatures actually peaked at 88 degrees today. I'm dreading this cold front that's suppose to head this way. Damned if you do and damned if you don't plant!!! Let's both keep our fingers crossed that this front doesn't hit us hard with the cold or extreme rain.

I wish I could help you with that tire, hubby is the one that knows about tires and he's long gone to bed.

    1. Sandy - I am almost to the point of having the perfect garden moisture level to get out there and plant. One more day. I just hope the rains hold off for one more day.

  3. Tractor supply sells some stuff called Slime. It works great for flats and will seal even large punctures. We also purchased the tires that never go flat from Agri-Supply for a couple of our wheel barrows.

  4. slime works well if you can get the bead to seal.

if you need to replace the tires, they generally can be made to fit using short pieces of half or 3/4 pipe to make the offsets work.

  6. MB B and Anon - I took the tires in to the mechanic/tire man this morning and he promised he would have them better than new tomorrow afternoon.

He also threatened me with no tire repair for the rest of my life if I put any stuff inside them.

We will see if his promises prove themselves.
