Just a Blip or Sign of the Future?

My poor Lug constant canine companion Winston is having a nervous breakdown. The poor guy has lived in peaceful bliss since my son brought him home. Except for that time he ran smack into that truck going 70 miles per hour anyway and spent a month in puppy hospital that is.

He was given a course on proper Small-Hold night watchman duties by the master. Only trouble is the Master was pretty much completely blind by then and had become a pampered inside pet as well, taken out only in a controlled environment. Mostly because he would wander off and get lost otherwise.  I could tell that poor old dog hated being kept and longed to go back out to freedom but he eventually began to enjoy the softer beds and climate controlled indoors more. Plus the treats were more regular.

Anyway he taught Winston the ropes. How to identify unfamiliar cats and to bark at the coyote packs to make sure they stayed away. Don't eat the chickens  and stay away from Rita the head butting Ewe. He didn't teach Winston not to run off every chance he got nor to look out for vehicles so Winston has always had to stay under constant control.

Then the peaceful quiet routine was interrupted by the frantic 24/7 construction next door and Winston is now convinced we are under attack. He patrols the house from the inside and explodes into loud earsplitting alarm at the slightest sound. The alarm really sucks as he will stand next to the bed looking out a window and explode when one of the ex-stray cats comes home from a hunting trip. He was out in the backyard going crazy last night until I went out and tried to identify what had him in such a state only to find a very small cottontail standing just on the other side of the fence in the goat pasture just out of reach teasing him.

Winston has just been ultra-jumpy for weeks now. He doesn't like these invaders at all.

On the plus side however we haven't seen a construction crew now since last Friday and traffic every where, especially locally, seems to be in a massive decline. I think I have only seen one side by side running around and it hasn't been that cold yet. Been rainy that may have something to do with it or maybe these new immigrants are beginning to feel reality without stimulus checks breathing down their necks.  Could also be now that it is dark by 5PM I maybe just am not noticing too.

I drove into the second nearest town to me Saturday, it's about 20 miles North of the Small-Hold, and it was almost refreshingly empty. It has now become one of my favorite small cities. The only store I visited that had shoppers in it was the farm and home/feed store. The super market even had a few items we have been unable to get South of us for almost a month now.

Could just be a Winter or Christmas thing but I can almost survive the current level of locust swarming much better than what I was seeing in late Summer or Fall.  A little taste of reality maybe enough to get these SUV driving Karens to head back to their cities I hope....

And Take their spawn with em :)

Keep Holding On Everyone changes are in the Air!!!

  1. Similar is happening here. The neighbors with 6 acres just northwest of my place have had a marital split and he has moved a big fancy double wide in facing my driveway. The workers are there daily and the dogs are going ballistic regularly. He's moving in with his 20 something honey. He's mid 40's and the wife and His kids keep the old place... With all the activity the goats are on edge and the cow moos a lot more. Way to much activity on my once quiet little lane. Ocala is busier than ever. Seems everyone comes here for Christmas now dontcha know! Ill get my needed things when I get off work Sunday morning and stay off the roads as much as possible...
