The Girls are hitting the Goldenrod

I took a cruise down into the pasture yesterday and saw the first of my Black and Blond forager bees working the Goldenrod. They haven't worked themselves up into a frenzy yet but at least some of the plants have begun producing enough nectar to get their attention. Another day or so and I imagine the hives will look something like boxes spitting bees out and taking em in in a constant stream.

The tractor girls may not get much work done while I am away but the Honey girls seem to :)

This is the most important flow of the year as far as I am concerned at least for hive survival. As long as it is a good one I won't have to worry about the girls surviving Winter as much or need to feed them.

I had another local bee keeper drop by last night. He kept about six hives and lost all of them this last Winter. So far I am thinking the insulated wraps I put around my girls paid off in spades.

Anyway off to work this morning. As usual click for a larger picture to enjoy the beauty of the girls working the Goldenrod.

Hat tip to Bubba where I stole the top picture from :)

  1. Ok, I know it's not for me to "think" about, because, well, that's Man-Eye-Candy there, but all I can think about when I see that top picture is "Jeezus, can you imagine how many ticks / chiggers she's gonn'a get out there!?!"

    1. The ticks and such are pretty much gone up here. I found one little one on me about two weeks ago. They usually die out up here around September.

However she is just lifting the shirt a slight bit. Prolly just scratching where a chigger got her :)

    1. MV - I am thinking after the tractor pics begin to run dry to see if I can maybe do the girly bees in various flowers for a bit. If you take my hint.

    1. At this time of my life I prefer to taste one and just reminiscence about the other. You can decide which you think is which :)
