It just took me about four hours to weed one 16 foot row that had been infested with Bindweed or Morning Glory. I got two or three different types going out there and I am seriously thinking about pulling the last trellis of Pole Beans because of the Bindweed. Ya it's that bad. I think I lost a number of those beans to the wet anyway but at this point the Bindweed has pretty much carpeted an area about 20 foot square.
I am not sure at this point which is more annoying though, trying to get bindweed vines out of the Tomatoes or trying to run clothesline between T-posts for a trellis with a Feline Supervisor.
It's a toss up at this point.
Well Lunch is over so back to work. I got maybe 2 or 3 more hours I can devote to removing Bindweed and then I will have to switch over to honey harvesting.

DeleteSmall scale farming is too much work. Instead of trying to kill the weeds, you should be growing weed. Now there's a cash crop for you.
ReplyDeleteHarry - Maybe after the collapse. Right now I don't want my property seized and sold off. That's the main reason the LEO's are all over pot growers around here.
DeleteThe first time I had a house built the lot was covered in bindweed. When they dug the hole for the foundation (10' deep) the bindweed roots were still going down.

Sdv - We have it all over but I have noticed it eventually does die out in the lawn or areas that are always mowed down. It eventually finds it's way into the garden and once it does you almost have to make a new garden to get rid of it.
DeleteYou can sell all that morning glory and bindweed, most of the world thinks it is grand and wonderful pretty stuff. Look at it as a gold mine.

I pulled a few dozen morning glory plants, I have been putting a hurtin on it but it never stops sprouting.
Sf - I am surprised how quick this infestation spread. I noticed it growing there last year. It loves to hide in my squash where I can't see it. I just didn't know it had gotten as bad as it is.
